Square, Wood Column 8"

The Square Wood Column or Post Cover is a non-load-bearing column designed to either stand on its own or wrap around a jack post, lolly post, or existing support. It offers three options for the capital and base set: Traditional, Craftsman, or Tuscan, allowing you to seamlessly match it with your existing decor. 

Our Square Wood 8" Column has a column shaft consisting of four unpainted MDF sides, each measuring 1/2" thick and 7 ⅝" x 8 ft. These sides are cleverly designed to fit together like puzzle pieces, utilizing lock mitre joints for easy assembly. The unassembled nature of the column allows it to be used to wrap around a jack post, lolly post, or existing support. To assist with the assembly process, we provide all the pre-cut trims, mounting brackets, tape, and MDF glue.

Inside shaft dimensions: 6 ⅝" square, outside shaft dimensions: 7 ⅝"

Traditional Column:
    • The base adds 1-1/4", resulting in a footprint of 8 ⅞"
    • The capital trim adds 4 ⅜" to the top portion, making it 12"
    • Traditional Colonial Base trim dimensions: ⅝" x 5 1/4" high

Craftsman Column:
    • Both the capital and base add 1-1/4" to the shaft size, resulting in top and bottom footprints of 8 ⅞"
    • Base trim dimensions: ⅝" x 5" high
    • Capital trim height: 2 ½"

Additionally, you have the option to extend the column's height to 9 feet by adding a 12" extension. The joint will be concealed by the Astragal, regardless of your choice of capital and base.

Please note that the actual height of the Column Shaft is 95". With the capital included, the overall height will slightly exceed 8 feet by approximately 2".
